Luba Bakičová

Slovakia, 1985

Luba Bakičová graduated from the Studio Glass Department at the J.E. Purkyně, Ústí and Labem in the Czech Republic. Since then she has been rethinking the traditional approach to glass as a material and searching for its enduring art values. She does not get carried away by the primary effects of glass, but tries to understand and grasp glass in its substance and its natural behavior.

At high temperatures, she visualizes the behavior of different types of glass and often combines them with heat-resistant concrete, contrasting the rigidity of the basic form with the elasticity of the molten glass. In this way, a high-contrast relationship is authentically established.

Her minimalist sculptures seem to pause in the present to enable the viewer to perceive this special moment and to determine the real, existential situation.
